There are many haunted pubs all over the UK, but one in the heart of the New Forest has become a local legend for a very specific reason. You see Table 11 at The Fleur de Lys in Pilley, near Lymington is rather special as it is presided over by a former landlady.
Customers, staff, and even the current landlord have all reported strange feelings of someone standing beside them while they eat. When we investigated, our cameras and audio gear didn’t just record a “feeling”, they captured something that looks like a former landlady moving around the restaurant… and stepping away from Table 11.
This is the real story behind the Fleur de Lys’s most famous ghost.
The Fleur de Lys: The New Forest’s Oldest Pub
The Fleur de Lys isn’t just another countryside pub. It is said to be the oldest pub in the New Forest, with a first pint said to have been served as far back as 1096, and a list of landlords dating back to 1498.
The building itself has been carbon‑tested and shows timber from the 11th century, though the overall structure is later, from the 16th century. Inside, you’ll find:
A medieval wishing well (reportedly linked to dark activity but we haven't had any evidence of this).
Stories of at least three different ghosts, including a grumpy dark spirit, an old man (possibly the first proprietor), and the most famous: “The Grey Lady”.
The story that has really taken off in recent years isn’t about the Grey Lady alone, it’s about a former landlady and the chilling activity centred on Table 11 in the main restaurant.
The Legend of Table 11: Someone Standing Beside You
Over the years, diners at the Fleur de Lys have reported a very specific sensation:
While eating, they feel someone standing right next to them, close enough that they can sense their presence.
Some say it feels like an older woman, watching quietly.
The current landlord has confirmed this during our investigation, saying that multiple customers and staff have told him the same thing: “There’s someone standing there when I’m at Table 11.”
It’s not just a vague “spooky pub” feeling. It’s a consistent, repeatable experience tied to one table in the restaurant.
That’s what made Table 11 one of our primary targets when we arrived for a full night investigation.

The Video Evidence: A Lady Moving Around the Restaurant
When we went back through the footage, one clip stood out.
In the main restaurant, our IR camera captured a figure that looks like an older woman moving through the dining area. The figure:
Appears near to Table 11.
Seems to pause beside the table, as if standing and observing.
Then moves away from Table 11, in a way that looks deliberate, not like a camera glitch or reflection.
Combined with the consistent reports from customers and staff about “someone standing beside them,” this image strongly suggests that the presence people feel is not just psychological.
Some locals and previous investigators have linked this figure to a former landlady of the Fleur de Lys, who is said to still “work” the restaurant in some unseen way. Whether she was kind, stern, or simply very attached to the pub is unclear, but the activity suggests she’s still very present.
If You Want to Experience Paranormal Activity: Go to Table 11
If you’re someone who’s curious about the paranormal, the Fleur de Lys is a must‑visit. If you want to test the legend yourself:
Book a table at Table 11 in the main restaurant.
Ask the staff if they’re comfortable with you sitting there for a while.
Bring your own camera or phone and see if you notice anything unusual – a shadow, a movement, or that same feeling of someone standing beside you.
Respect the pub, the staff, and the diners. This is a working restaurant, not a theme attraction.
The landlord has confirmed that the activity is real to him, and our investigation backs that up with video that looks like a former landlady moving around the restaurant and stepping away from Table 11.
