Exploring the Fascinating World of Cat Balls in Paranormal Investigation

In the world of paranormal investigation, it’s often the simplest tools that surprise us the most. The humble cat ball is a perfect example. It is cheap, easy to use, and surprisingly responsive in active locations. However, there’s always been a bit of controversy surrounding them: are they going off due to spirit activity, or just because someone moved a fraction too much?
To address this question, I am going to run an experiment.
The Cat-Ball / Spirit-Ball Plan
I’ve taken a standard motion-activated cat ball and removed its internal movement sensor. Now, even if you shake it, roll it, or place it on an uneven surface, it won’t light up. We’ve tested this thoroughly at home, and it’s completely inert by design.
Next, I’ll take this modified cat ball, which I like to term a spirit-ball, and place it alongside fully operational ones at a known active location. The aim? Simple:
To see whether the ‘disabled’ cat ball lights up under conditions that can’t be explained by motion or vibration.
If it does light up, and that’s a big if, then we may have something very interesting on our hands.
Why I'm Doing This
As investigators, it’s easy to get comfortable using the same tools in the same way. Yet, part of our responsibility is to push the boundaries of what we think we know. By altering the device, we strip away one of the most common counterarguments: that it’s all just movement.
This is about creating a controlled test. If the modified cat ball lights up during a session, without any physical reason to do so, it will raise questions worth exploring.
We’re not here to "prove" anything once and for all. We’re here to keep asking questions and trying new things.
The Importance of Experimentation in Paranormal Investigation
Experimentation is crucial in any field, especially in paranormal investigation. It allows us to challenge existing beliefs and explore new possibilities. By testing our tools in different ways, we can gain insights that might otherwise remain hidden.
Understanding the Tools We Use
Every investigator has their preferred tools. The cat ball is a popular choice due to its simplicity and effectiveness. However, understanding how these tools work is essential.
When we modify a tool, like removing the sensor from the cat ball, we can better understand its limitations. This knowledge can help us refine our techniques and improve our investigations.
The Role of Skepticism
Skepticism is a vital part of the investigative process. It encourages us to question our findings and seek evidence before drawing conclusions. By approaching our experiments with a critical eye, we can ensure that our results are valid and reliable.
What’s Next?
I’ll be taking this cat ball into the field in the next few days. I will document everything carefully and report back with what Barry and I find, whether it’s absolutely nothing or something that challenges expectations.
In the next blog, I’ll share the full results, including:
The setup and location
Any responses (or lack of)
Video evidence if captured
My personal thoughts on what it might mean
Until then, stay curious as we go beyond the veil for you. The best discoveries are often the ones we don’t expect.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the experiment with the cat ball is an exciting opportunity to explore the unknown. By pushing the boundaries of our understanding, we can uncover new insights into the world of paranormal investigation.
Stay tuned for the upcoming results, and remember to keep questioning everything. The journey into the unknown is just beginning.
